The Driving Force Behind the Art
Dr. Wharf Rat
Born out of a love of music, nature, imagination, and the freedom to create without rules.
Growing up in New England, I developed a deep appreciation for the ocean, wildlife, history, and the natural world. Moving to Colorado introduced me to an entirely different landscape of inspiration — the Rocky Mountains, vast wilderness, incredible wildlife, and the beauty of the American West.
Music has always been a huge part of who I am, especially the Grateful Dead. Their music, artwork, and culture have had a major influence on my creative identity. Dr Wharf Rat is inspired by that connection, particularly the Grateful Dead song Wharf Rat, and the free-spirited, unconventional world surrounding the band.
My artistic style is a mixture of abstract expression, psychedelic imagery, surrealism, nature, and experimentation. I enjoy taking familiar subjects — animals, mountains, landscapes, history, mythology, and music — and transforming them into something unexpected.
I don't believe art needs to follow a particular set of rules. Some pieces are colorful and chaotic, others are strange, mysterious, or inspired by the natural world. I enjoy experimenting, embracing imperfections, and seeing where an idea flows.
For me, Dr Wharf Rat isn't about fitting into a particular artistic category. It's about curiosity, individuality, self-expression, and creating something that didn't exist before.
The experiment is the art. Welcome to the strange and colorful world of Dr. Wharf Rat…enjoy the journey!
